Troup moved to Indiantown from Miami in the 1940s and co-founded The Troup Brothers Construction Company (later Big Chief Construction Company). He built the Circle T Ranch with his brothers and began producing rodeos there in the 1950s. Poor quality copy.

He also founded The Kiplinger Publishing Company, which included Kiplinger Washington Editors, Inc. Kiplinger donated to many projects in the Martin County area such as the Woman's Club of Stuart, the Martin County Library system, and the House of Refuge.
