A champion swimmer in his youth, Ricou Browning Browning was starring in and producing Florida water shows by his early 20s. After impressing film scouts with his swimming while they looked for locations for the film, he was hired to play the Gill Man in the Creature From the Black Lagoon (released 1954). He later became a writer and director for many films and television productions, including Flipper.
