Women sits on a horse next to a paved street in Jensen Beach. There is a newspaper delivery box next to the woman and horse and behind them there are signs for Oysters, Shrimp, and Crawfish. The Indian River lagoon and bridge to Hutchinson Island can be seen in the background. Construction for the bridge to Hutchinson Island, eventually called the Frank A. Wacha Bridge, began in 1955 and continued for a decade. -

A woman stands in a citrus grove with her hat in her hand. Underneath the woman's feet there is a narrow walking path that runs between the rows of fruit trees, possibly at Ruxton Plantation in Eden. According to the manuscript on Ruxton Plantation written by Arnold Dumond "Duke" Merwin, a boardwalk was built between the adjacent Merwin and Ruxton plantations. (see Sandra Thurlow's Historic Jensen and Eden) The Merwin family often ate their meals at Ruxton Plantation, and they wanted to connect the two properties to make their frequent trips easier to traverse. A woman stands in a boat using a make-shift oar to help row. A young boy sits behind the woman. A house in visible near the boat and flood waters surround the area. It appears that the child may have rescued the woman from her flooded home. This photo was taken during October of 1959 when the Tick Ridge area of Jensen Beach flooded.
