Actor Joseph Jefferson reclines in a wicker bicycle chair with his valet and secretary, Carl Kettler Sr., operating the pedals behind the chair. Best known for his portrayal of Rip Van Winkle both on stage and in silent films, Jefferson spent the latter years of his life at his home in Palm Beach.
